This is the first in a series of articles that documents my experience as a contestant in the Junior Miss Pageant Contest 2003. The contestants were between the ages of 8-11. I was 12 at the time and competed for Valencia, California. As seen below, I won 3rd place out of 15 contestants (top 5) and made it to top 5 nationally (winning my state). Some of what is discussed may make some people uncomfortable with me because it's not PC, politically correct or appropriate for children; however, it is my story and one that has never been told before about pageants in general. In this article, I'll be discussing what happened during the pageant competition from the point of view from being a contestant and how the judges/organizers made their decisions for winners and losers. This is a different approach from other articles that discuss my personal experiences with this organization that you don't hear much about because these articles are written by organizers or contestants past and present. Usually they're not written by someone who has actually competed in one of these pageants nor have they been participants in lots of them like I have been since I was 3 years old. I'll also include some tips that will help parents who are thinking about enrolling their children into pageants. The Junior Miss Pageant Contest 2003 was held in San Diego and hosted by "Little Miss of America". The pageant was during the same time as the 2003 U.S. Open of Surfing, which was taking place at Imperial Beach, California at the same time. Next to the contest was a booth where they sold "Star*Girl" merchandise. Pictures from that can be seen below. First of all, to give you a little history about the pageant organization. The pageant originated in 1933 to provide a national platform for girls ages 5-11 years old to compete in swimwear, talent, and formal wear categories. In 1940, the pageant was revived and was called "Little Miss America Pageant", which included a one-page patriotism section that was patriotism themed questions that were provided for contestants to answer on stage during their interview portion of the competition. cfa1e77820
